Sixes

SIXES
- description

“Sixes” continue from where the previous body of work, “Stripped”, left off. They too are plywood sculptures that appeal through their beguiling organic forms. The point of this work is to further highlight the perverse way our culture finds solace in nature by the act of first destroying it and then surrounding ourselves with inferior replications. Unlike the previous collection “Stripped”, which was created in a process of binding intentional precut strips to create a whole, the new work is created through subtraction, with plywood planks glued first, followed by the material being stripped away. The glue lines of the plywood vividly highlight the undulating surfaces of the subtly figurative sculptures, in this way appearing much like the texture lines within a tree.
